NECO warns against proxy enrollment
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has issued a warning to school owners and relevant parties against enrolling candidates for its exams through proxy means. This announcement was made in a statement released on Monday, signed by Azeez Sani, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations.
Sani emphasized that such fraudulent practices can lead to identity theft and the distribution of fake results. He further stated that NECO is committed to eliminating examination malpractice in all its forms.
To combat impersonation during exams, the Council has implemented several measures, including the use of Biometric Data Capturing Devices, customized answer booklets, and the inclusion of candidates’ photographs and dates of birth on their official certificates.
Additionally, NECO introduced the e-Verify platform last year, which allows for the online verification of NECO results. The Council stressed that any certificate claiming to be issued by them that cannot be verified via the e-Verify platform is considered counterfeit.
NECO has urged State Ministries of Education and school owners to ensure that only the genuine details of legitimate candidates are used for registration in all NECO examinations.
In related news, candidates found guilty of impersonation in the recently released 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination Internal have had their results withheld. This action is part of NECO’s strong policy to address all forms of examination malpractice.
