Omoni Oboli Reveals How She Deals With Her Son And Daughter-In-Law In New Podcast
Omoni Oboli, a Nollywood actress and director, explains why she avoids becoming involved in her son’s marriage and respects her daughter-in-law’s independence, even though she has reservations.
During her latest visit on the Dear Ife podcast with Ifedayo Agoro, the mother of three discussed how she respects her son and daughter-in-law.
Oboli explained that she empathises with her daughter-in-law by seeing herself in her shoes rather than relying simply on her perspective.
Drawing on her own experiences, she stated that she, too, married at 21—the same age as her daughter-in-law married her son—and was fairly strong-willed.
Recognising her youthful resistance, Oboli realises that her daughter-in-law would prefer not to be governed.
The experienced actress also emphasised the necessity of sons being able to interact openly with their mothers on behalf of their wives, so sustaining good family boundaries and respect.
“There have been a few occasions when my son has approached me and said, ‘Mum, Marelle does not like that,’ and I have had to catch myself and say, ‘Oh, I didn’t mean it that way.'”
And that’s okay. So, the fact that your child can’t come to you and say, ‘My wife doesn’t like this,’ is a problem in and of itself,” she explained.
“I think, first and foremost, people need to understand and accept that this is now another family. Yes, kids are still part of your family, but they now have their own.”
Recall, Omoni Oboli has made admirers drool with a lovely video of herself walking her first grandchild.
In a video posted to her Instagram page, the movie producer was seen performing her grandmother duties for the first time with her grandchild, Naya.
She characterised herself as a “yummy yummy grandma” who is also known as “Nana.” Her followers and acquaintances praised about how lovely she looked as a grandmother.
