The Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, located in Katsina State, has conferred an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree on Abubakar Abubakar, the lawmaker representing Bichi Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation.
During the university’s 9th convocation ceremony held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Armayau Hamisu noted that the honor was awarded in recognition of Abubakar’s significant contributions to educational development in Nigeria.
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted that Abubakar had recently provided full funding for 21 postgraduate students to pursue various engineering degrees in Malaysia, in addition to supporting over 5,000 students from Bichi who are enrolled in universities and colleges across the nation.
“Hon. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar has made remarkable contributions through his role in the House of Representatives, including funding for the construction of three faculties, a library, a female hostel, and an auditorium at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma,” he stated.
In recognition of his efforts, a large auditorium at the university has been named after him, which he will officially inaugurate following the ceremony.
After unveiling the 200-seat auditorium, Abubakar expressed his commitment to collaborating with his colleagues in the National Assembly to enhance the quality and competitiveness of academic institutions in Nigeria.
He thanked the university for honoring him with the award, saying, “Universities in developed nations have effectively leveraged such funding strategies. Nigerian universities should also consider adopting these approaches.”
“I assure you that I will continue to engage in initiatives that earned me this recognition from the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, and I will strive to enhance these efforts further. I ask for your continued support in this mission,” he added.
Abubakar was joined at the event by several fellow House members from various geopolitical regions, along with family, friends, and supporters.
