Ruger Explains The Key Reason He Gets Booked A lot For Shows
Ruger wrote on his X account that the Nigerian music scene suffers from the emphasis of money over skill, as artists with the resources to heavily promote their work achieve greater success than talented ones.
“The music scene has been hurting me coz no matter how shit an artist is, once there’s money for hype, Otilo,” the recipient of the tweet states.
Ruger’s feelings on the state of Nigerian music are mirrored by other artists, including as BNXN, who have lamented about how little attention skilled performers receive.
The current situation of the Nigerian music business has been a source of contention in 2024.
Several critics have stated that the business is seeing diminishing returns, with only a few hit records and the absence of a breakout star.
Some of these concerns have been attributed to the exorbitant expense of music promotion, which has reached an all-time high due to Afrobeat’s global exportation.
Timaya recently complained about the excessive expense of shooting music videos, which can now reach 100 million naira.
Ruger discussed statgemanship in another X post, which he attributes to his success as an artist.
“Let me explain why I get so many bookings. “I don’t come on stage to sing (which I know I’m very good at); I bring my entire fucking personality on stage; it’s not a joke,” the post says.
Ruger also announced the title of his upcoming sophomore album, which he has chosen to call ‘Blown Boy’. The singer will continue to prepare for his next album with the release of a new single, ‘Toma Toma’, on November 15.
