South West senators hail passage of SWDC bill

Secretary South West Senators Caucus: Afolabi Salisu

The Southwest Senators Caucus has expressed its satisfaction with the recent approval of the Southwest Development Commission Bill during a Senate session on September 26, 2024.

In a statement released by Caucus Secretary Senator Afolabi Salisu (APC, Ogun Central), the group highlighted that the bill is a product of collaborative efforts among all Southwest Senators. They emphasized that this initiative reflects their dedication to advancing the interests of the South West within a unified and thriving Nigeria.

The primary objective of the South West Development Commission is to enhance developmental initiatives across the six states in the region and to foster overall growth. The commission is designed to align with the South West Development Agenda, which aims to uplift the area.

Before becoming law, the bill requires approval from the House of Representatives. However, the Caucus is optimistic that South West members in the House will facilitate its swift passage.

The group also expressed gratitude to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas for their leadership in advancing the bill.

“We take pride in this accomplishment and remain committed to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for the benefit of all Nigerians, particularly those in the South West,” the statement concluded.
