Tinubu not T-pain, working to ease Nigerian’s pain- Onanuga
Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, has affirmed that President Bola Tinubu is fully cognizant of the challenges facing Nigerians, refuting allegations of the President’s indifference towards the hardships faced by citizens. In an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Onanuga dismissed the social media moniker “T-pain” attributed to Tinubu as a mischievous portrayal, reiterating the President’s dedication to improving Nigeria’s economic situation.
“President Tinubu empathizes with the struggles of Nigerians and assures them that relief is forthcoming. While some may mockingly refer to him as ‘T-pain’, he is focused on healing, not causing harm,” Onanuga emphasized. Criticisms of Tinubu’s economic reforms, including the removal of petrol subsidies and forex unification, have led to significant price hikes in essential goods, fueling widespread discontent among the populace. Despite this, Onanuga defended the policies as aimed at “rebuilding the economy” rather than exacerbating difficulties. He asserted, “The President acknowledges the challenges faced by Nigerians and is diligently working to provide relief and steer the nation towards a prosperous future.”
Despite challenges such as high inflation and increased living costs, Onanuga highlighted indications of economic growth and enhanced revenues, suggesting a positive economic trajectory. He explained, “While this transition may be painful, it is part of a broader strategy to stabilize and expand the economy.” Recent protests by citizens calling for a reversal of the government’s economic measures, particularly affecting the middle class, have not swayed the administration’s resolve, with Onanuga characterizing the reforms as crucial steps towards sustainable development.
