Toke Makinwa Expresses Wish To Be Married Again

Despite just turning forty, Nollywood actress and media personality Toke Makinwa talks candidly about her wish to try marriage again.

Despite its difficulties, the 40-year-old called marriage a “beautiful institution” in an interview with British-Nigerian broadcaster Madame Joyce.

Notably, Makinwa was previously wed in 2014 to businessman Maje Ayida; however, their marriage terminated in 2017 due to well-publicized issues.

She talked about her hopes of falling in love again and reflected on her prior experiences during the conversation.

“Marriage is one of the most beautiful things when done with the right person, but it’s not easy,” she remarked.

“People usually assume that I’m a feminist who criticises guys or that I despise men.”

“One of the most exquisite institutions is marriage, and I have been married before. “In my opinion, marriage is similar to a sibling relationship.”

“The first couple of days are exciting if your siblings visit. You two sleep in the same bed, wear identical pyjamas, and reminisce about all the years and moments that have passed.”

‘It’s like, “Close my f*cking door,” by the third day. My shoes were worn by whom? My earrings are missing. Please let me know when you plan to return home. Please, I’m exhausted. And I saw it that way.”

“On certain days, I would run home to tell my ex-husband about everything that had happened to me. On other days, I woke up and thought, “God, you must despise me for marrying this fool.”

“This must be hell; this isn’t life. I viewed it that way. And many years ago, that didn’t work out. I still like the institution, though.”

“Yes, I do wish to remarry. “It hasn’t yet occurred. It’s not out of the question. I’m just being patient. Perhaps now is not God’s time. I just hope I’m not wrinkled when he’s ready [laughs].”
