Students of Kwara State University (KWASU) who mistakenly received the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) upkeep allowance twice have been directed to return the extra payment or face disciplinary action.
The directive was announced by the Kwara State University Students’ Union in a notice issued to affected beneficiaries following reports of duplicate upkeep disbursements.
According to the notice, students whose banks have already recalled the duplicate payment are still required to sign a consent form authorising the return of the funds to the appropriate NELFUND funding account.
The union explained that signing the consent form is compulsory, even if the bank has successfully reversed the excess payment.
Students whose duplicate payment has not been automatically recovered by their banks have also been instructed to refund the extra money using the approved payment details provided by the institution.
The Students’ Union warned that failure to comply with the directive could attract disciplinary sanctions, urging all affected students to cooperate with the refund process.
The development comes as NELFUND continues the nationwide disbursement of tuition fees and monthly upkeep allowances to eligible students in public tertiary institutions.
Over the past few weeks, many beneficiaries across the country have confirmed receiving outstanding upkeep payments after earlier delays, while several universities have also acknowledged fresh tuition fee disbursements from the student loan scheme.
Students are advised to rely on official updates from their institutions and NELFUND for information regarding their payments and to promptly report any discrepancies in their accounts.
