Imo CP orders arrest of policeman extorting bus drivers in viral video

The Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has taken decisive action against police misconduct by ordering the arrest of an officer and his team for allegedly extorting money from commercial bus drivers. This development was announced by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, through a statement on X.com on Sunday.

The issue came to light following the release of a short 15-second video that captured a police officer accepting money from commercial bus drivers operating on a specific route. This footage raised concerns about corruption within the police force and prompted immediate action from the Commissioner.

In his statement, Okoye emphasized the command’s commitment to addressing such unethical behavior, declaring, “I will personally identify these officers and share their details here to demonstrate that we have zero tolerance for extortion.” This commitment reflects the police command’s determination to maintain integrity within the force and restore public confidence.

Additionally, CP Danjuma has instructed the Complaint Response Unit and the Provost Department to ensure that the involved officers face severe consequences for their actions. Okoye noted, “Disciplinary actions will be taken against them to serve as a warning to others,” reinforcing the message that such behavior will not be tolerated.

The swift response from the Imo State Police Command highlights the ongoing efforts to combat corruption and restore trust in law enforcement. By holding officers accountable for their actions, the command aims to create a more transparent and respectful relationship with the community it serves. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of integrity in policing and the need for continued vigilance against misconduct within the ranks.

The public will be keenly watching how this situation unfolds, as the Imo State Police Command strives to uphold its standards and reinforce its commitment to ethical policing.
