The Abia State Police Command has provided details regarding the arrest of Ceekay Igara, the Labour Party’s National Vice Chairman for the South-East, which occurred on Saturday. According to the police, Igara was summoned after a complaint was filed by the party’s acting state chairman, who accused him of impersonation.

This information was shared in a statement by ASP Maureen Chinaka, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, on Sunday. The statement indicated that Igara and three others were invited for questioning due to allegations of conduct likely to disturb the peace, impersonation, and fraud.

The statement said: “The Abia State Police Command received a written complaint from the Acting State Chairman of the Labour Party against Mr. Ceekay Igara and three others for alleged impersonation, obtaining by false pretence, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.”

It further noted that Igara was questioned by detectives and released the same day after providing his statement, with the investigation still underway. The statement added: “On 19/10/2024, detectives from the Command invited Mr. Igara to the Command Headquarters, took his statement, and released him the same day. Investigation is ongoing.”

Earlier, the Labour Party leadership had called for the release of Igara, claiming he was arrested under the directive of Abia Governor Dr. Alex Otti. This demand was articulated in a statement from the party’s Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, issued on Saturday in Abuja.
