Ogun teacher in trouble as pupil dies after 162 frog jumps
A student from Obada Idi-Emi High School in the Imeko Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State, known only as Ariyo, has tragically passed away after allegedly being struck 162 times with a cane by a teacher for damaging a dustbin. Activist Adetoun brought attention to the incident on Instagram on Friday.
According to Adetoun, the teacher had placed a dustbin in Ariyo’s classroom and instructed the students not to break it. When Ariyo jokingly remarked that the dustbin was purchased with their own money, the teacher reportedly became angry. Following this, the teacher informed the principal, who ordered that Ariyo be punished.
Acting on the principal’s directive, the teacher allegedly administered 162 strokes with a cane. During this punishment, Ariyo collapsed. Adetoun further claimed that there was a delay in transporting Ariyo to the hospital, and by the time he received medical attention, he had already passed away.
A senior police officer, who wished to remain unnamed, confirmed the incident but was not authorized to speak publicly. He noted that the situation had caused unrest in the area, but police intervention helped to restore calm. “We are addressing the matter; although it created tension, we managed to control it,” the officer stated.
As of the time of this report, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command had not yet responded to inquiries regarding the incident.
