The Lagos State Police Command has initiated a search for 48-year-old Kadiri Yusuf, known as Alado, who faces allegations of violently assaulting his two children. This incident reportedly occurred in the Orile Agege area of Lagos.

As reported by Daily Trust, Yusuf is accused of causing serious injuries to his children, aged 11 and 13. The situation came to public attention when the head teacher of a local primary school notified the authorities. Disturbed by the injuries, the teacher reached out to local law enforcement regarding the children’s condition.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the events, stating that the head teacher discovered the girl’s extensive wounds around 5 PM on Friday, October 18, shortly after 7 AM that same day. Hundeyin mentioned that the 11-year-old disclosed to her teacher that her father frequently assaulted her. She also revealed that her older brother had been victimized in a similar manner.

Fortunately, the children have since been rescued and are receiving care, now under the protection of their sister. However, the suspect managed to escape before the police arrived, and efforts to locate him are ongoing.

Reports indicate that child abuse in Nigeria remains a significant concern, with many instances of physical, emotional, and sexual mistreatment documented. Experts highlight that children often endure violence in their homes, schools, and communities. Cultural practices such as corporal punishment and child labor are frequently accepted, resulting in numerous cases going unreported due to fear and societal stigma, thus perpetuating a cycle of abuse.
