Reno Omokri Criticizes Peter Obi’s Silence Amid National Turmoil — Nigerians React Strongly Online

Political commentator and former presidential aide Reno Omokri has stirred heated debate after criticizing the “loud silence” of Labour Party leader Peter Obi during Nigeria’s ongoing socio-political and economic crisis. Omokri, known for his fiery political commentary and open support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, took to social media on November 3, 2025, to question Obi’s absence from public discourse at a time he described as “critical for the nation.”

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Omokri wrote:

“Nigeria and Nigerians must never forget the loud silence of Peter Obi during this time of crisis for our dear nation. No good leader ever goes under when the sound of thunder threatens his nation — except such a person was the one who pointed the finger in the first place.”

He added that Obi’s quietness “is very pregnant with meaning, collusion, and approval,” implying that the former Anambra governor’s decision to remain silent might suggest complicity or indifference. “A man who has an opinion on everything suddenly goes quiet,” Omokri continued. “That is a most suspicious and inauspicious silence.”

Omokri’s remarks quickly went viral, drawing thousands of responses and sparking widespread argument among Nigerians online. While some agreed with his criticism, many others accused him of hypocrisy, obsession, and political manipulation.

One user, AqualinaXYZ, fired back humorously, accusing Omokri of having a personal vendetta:

“Reno, make I ask you one question — did Peter Obi promise to give you something and later refused? Because this your obsession is worrying.”

Others, like tundegan, sided with Omokri, alleging that Obi’s silence was politically motivated. “Peter Obi was busy colluding with his fellow traitor, Nnamdi Kanu, during the time,” the commenter wrote.

However, the majority of reactions condemned Omokri’s comments as unnecessary provocation. User SeverusSnape called him a “big mumu,” while OLABAMIJI99 described Omokri as “a lunatic” who was doing more harm than good to the Tinubu administration. “Tinubu should distance himself from Reno — he’s destroying this government,” the commenter warned.

Other contributors pointed out the double standard in Omokri’s critique. helinues observed, “If Peter Obi talks, it’s wahala; if he doesn’t talk, it’s still wahala.” This sentiment was echoed by Adaisback, who defended Obi’s quiet approach, reminding readers of the former governor’s past efforts in humanitarian causes:

“When Peter Obi was visiting IDP camps and offering help to communities in distress, where was Reno? I love Peter Obi’s silence — let APC fix the mess they created.”

Some users also turned the criticism back on Omokri himself. Racoon wrote, “After your failed attempt to use Mike Arnold to push your propaganda, you’ve now turned to Peter Obi. You’ve become a green snake in green grass.”

A few comments were overtly hostile toward Obi, branding him “a coward” and “a traitor,” while others mocked the fixation on his silence altogether. Gotocourt questioned the logic behind Omokri’s demand for Obi to speak, asking, “Is Peter Obi the government spokesperson or a political appointee?”

The controversy reveals deeper divisions in Nigerian political discourse, especially between supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party. Since the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi has largely kept a low public profile, focusing on policy discussions and quiet philanthropy, while Omokri has consistently used his platforms to discredit the former presidential candidate.

Observers note that Omokri’s criticism is part of a larger pattern of online political warfare — where personalities from opposing camps exchange sharp words to maintain influence over Nigeria’s vast social media audience. Despite his frequent attacks, Omokri remains a polarizing figure. To many Nigerians, his constant targeting of Peter Obi reflects not genuine concern but an ongoing political rivalry rooted in the 2023 elections and the shifting alliances that followed.

As public frustration grows over the economic crisis, insecurity, and governance challenges under the Tinubu administration, many Nigerians seem less concerned about Peter Obi’s silence and more focused on the government’s performance. Yet Omokri’s statement has ensured that, at least for now, Obi’s quietness remains a national talking point — with interpretations ranging from strategic restraint to political calculation.

For his part, Peter Obi has not responded to Omokri’s remarks, continuing to maintain the same silence that his critics find so infuriating — and his supporters, so dignified.
