Mike Arnold Alleges Reno Omokri Was Absent at His Father’s Burial, Raises Questions Over 2012 Event

A fresh controversy has emerged online following allegations by U.S.-based commentator Mike Arnold, who claimed that former presidential aide and social media personality Reno Omokri did not attend the burial of his late father, Justice Jonathan Ayere Omokri, held in Warri, Delta State, in March 2012.

In a detailed post shared via his X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, Arnold stated that credible sources confirmed Omokri’s absence at the ceremony, adding that public records and media archives from the time support the claim.

According to Arnold, there were no tributes, statements, or social media posts from Omokri in March 2010—when Justice Omokri reportedly died—or in March 2012, when his burial was held. Despite being an active user on social media during that period, Arnold noted that Omokri’s public commentary focused on politics and national issues rather than his father’s passing.

“A well-placed little bird whispered something heavy: Reno Omokri didn’t attend his own father’s burial in Warri on March 27, 2012,” Arnold wrote. “No X posts, no tributes, no mention anywhere. His feed from that period was alive with commentary on Jonathan’s YouWin programme and the Mali coup, but silent about his father’s death.”

Arnold further referenced an interview in which Omokri stated he visited Warri in 2012 for an evangelism meeting with Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, suggesting that this trip appeared unrelated to his father’s funeral.

“Why visit Warri that year for evangelism and not to lay your father to rest?” Arnold questioned. “In a culture where burying one’s parents is sacred, that absence speaks volumes.”

Justice Jonathan Ayere Omokri, a respected jurist, reportedly passed away in March 2010, with the family holding his burial two years later—an arrangement common in Nigeria for prominent figures.

Arnold’s claims have ignited widespread discussion across social media platforms, with many users recalling Reno Omokri’s history of publicly criticizing political figures, including Peter Obi, for perceived moral inconsistencies.

As of October 28, 2025, Omokri had not issued a public response to the allegations. His verified X account and other platforms remained silent on the matter, further fueling speculation online.

While some commentators accused Arnold of waging a personal or politically motivated attack, others argued that the claims, if true, highlight a contradiction between Omokri’s moral posturing and personal conduct.

Political observers note that the feud between both men dates back to disagreements arising from Omokri’s outspoken political commentary and shifting alliances in recent election cycles.

Arnold, who described his source as “unimpeachable,” insisted that his post was not intended as a political smear but as “a call for truth and introspection.”

“It’s not for me to judge,” he wrote. “But it’s worth asking: what pulls a son away from his father’s burial? Truth this deep deserves care, not clout. This poor soul needs our prayers.”

As reactions continue to pour in, Omokri—known for his daily political commentary and social media engagement—has yet to directly address the issue or provide clarification about his attendance at his father’s funeral.

The development adds to a growing list of controversies surrounding the former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, who remains a polarizing figure in Nigerian political discourse.
