FG Student Venture Capital Grant Update: 45 Startups Receive Funding Nationwide

The Federal Government’s Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG) programme has released its latest update following the conclusion of its national bootcamp and final selection exercise, with 45 student-led startups confirmed as grant beneficiaries across Nigeria.

The initiative, organised by the Federal Ministry of Education, is designed to support student innovators in tertiary institutions by providing funding, mentorship, and structured business development support.

How the Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG) Programme Started

The Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG) is an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education designed to support and fund student-led businesses across Nigerian tertiary institutions.

The programme provided grant funding, validation support, and national visibility for innovative student startups with strong growth potential.

It was aimed at encouraging entrepreneurship among students in key development areas such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medical sciences (STEM-M).

Eligibility Criteria

To participate in the programme, applicants were required to:

  • Be currently enrolled in a Nigerian tertiary institution (university, polytechnic, or college of education)
  • Be at least in 300 level or its equivalent
  • Apply either as an individual or as part of a team
  • Allow team participation from lower-level students, provided the team was led by a qualified 300-level student or above

Funding Support

The programme made available up to ₦50 million in grant funding for selected student startups in the current cycle.

This funding was designed to help student innovators develop, validate, and scale their business ideas into sustainable ventures.

Following the conclusion on the program, 65 Student Startups was Shortlisted for the Bootcamp; 

According to programme organisers, a total of 65 student startups were selected from universities and higher institutions across the country to participate in the S-VCG Bootcamp and Grand Finale.

Participants underwent intensive training, mentorship sessions, and final pitch evaluations as part of the selection process for funding support.

At the end of the programme, 45 startups were successfully awarded federal grants, marking one of the largest student innovation funding exercises in Nigeria to date.

The Student Venture Capital Grant initiative is part of the Federal Government’s strategy to promote innovation and entrepreneurship within Nigerian tertiary institutions.

The programme focuses on:

  • Supporting student-led startups
  • Providing seed funding for innovations

  • Encouraging job creation through student businesses
  • Bridging the gap between education and industry
