Applications are now open for the 2026 DAAD STEM Master’s Scholarships, a prestigious funding programme established by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to support outstanding graduates from developing and emerging countries who wish to pursue a Master’s degree in Germany.

 

The scholarship provides successful applicants with comprehensive financial support, including a monthly stipend of €992, health insurance, travel assistance, and additional allowances, enabling students to focus on their studies at state or state-recognized German universities.

About the DAAD STEM Master’s Scholarships

The DAAD STEM Master’s Scholarship is an international academic funding programme that enables talented graduates to undertake a tuition-free Master’s degree in Germany in selected STEM disciplines.

Through this initiative, DAAD aims to strengthen global scientific cooperation while equipping students with advanced knowledge and practical skills needed to address modern challenges in technology, engineering, healthcare, environmental sustainability, and industrial development.

Eligible Fields of Study

The scholarship supports full-time Master’s degree programmes in STEM-related disciplines, including:

The DAAD Regional Office in Nairobi coordinates applications and support for candidates from the following countries:

  • Kenya
  • Uganda
  • Tanzania
  • Ethiopia
  • South Sudan
  • Rwanda
  • Burundi
  • Democratic Republic of the Congo
  • Somalia

Applicants should review the official programme guidelines to determine their eligibility and applicable procedures.

Scholarship Benefits

Successful scholars will receive a comprehensive funding package that includes:

  • Monthly scholarship stipend of €992
  • Health insurance coverage
  • Accident insurance
  • Personal liability insurance
  • Travel allowance (where approved)
  • Annual study allowance of €460

Depending on individual circumstances, recipients may also qualify for additional support such as:

  • Monthly rent subsidy
  • Family allowance for eligible accompanying family members
  • Reimbursement of approved carbon offset payments for air travel

Scholarship Duration

Funding is available for a period of 10 to 24 months, depending on the standard duration of the selected Master’s programme.
