Fairness: Firmness will restore hope to PDP

Tom Ikimi

Tom Ikimi, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has emphasized that the principles of fairness, firmness, and decisiveness are essential for restoring hope and confidence within the major opposition party. In a statement released in Abuja on Sunday, Ikimi, who serves as the Chairman of the PDP Disciplinary Committee, highlighted the urgent need for the party to align with the expectations of its large membership base across the country as well as the wider Nigerian public.

Ikimi expressed optimism that embracing these core values would enable the PDP to rise to the occasion and fulfill the aspirations of its members and the citizens who are yearning for effective national leadership. “We believe that our commitment to fairness, firmness, and decisiveness will help restore confidence in our party, allowing us to meet the expectations of our vast membership and the Nigerian people, who are eager for suitable leadership at the national level,” he stated.

Moreover, Ikimi called on all party members and leaders to extend their support and cooperation to the disciplinary committee to ensure the successful completion of its mandate. He emphasized that the committee would address all petitions in accordance with the provisions of the PDP constitution, which outlines the specific offenses and corresponding sanctions.

“The PDP constitution clearly defines the offenses and the penalties associated with them. It is our responsibility to uphold these guidelines as we work through the complaints submitted to us,” Ikimi explained. He also announced that the committee is poised to commence its sessions and will begin hearing petitions from party members.

Ikimi expressed eagerness to receive grievances and petitions from any aggrieved members, whether through the National Working Committee or via other appropriate channels. He reiterated the committee’s commitment to a transparent and fair process in handling all matters brought before it, ensuring that every voice is heard and considered.

In conclusion, Ikimi’s statements underscore the PDP’s commitment to internal discipline and accountability as it seeks to regain the trust of its members and the general public. By prioritizing fairness and decisiveness, the party aims to strengthen its position as a viable alternative in the Nigerian political landscape, ultimately working towards a leadership that meets the needs and expectations of the populace. Through the active participation of its members and the diligent efforts of the disciplinary committee, the PDP hopes to foster a renewed sense of confidence and purpose as it navigates the complexities of national politics.
