The Federal Government has announced a new phase of the YouthCred programme, expanding access to affordable credit for one million economically active young Nigerians as part of efforts to increase financial inclusion and support youth-led businesses.

The latest announcement introduces YouthCred for Entrepreneurs, a new category that will provide eligible young business owners with access to loans ranging from ₦200,000 to ₦2 million without the traditional collateral requirements associated with many commercial loans.

The expansion was unveiled through the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP), the agency responsible for implementing the Federal Government’s consumer credit programmes.

What Is YouthCred?

YouthCred is a Federal Government-backed consumer credit initiative created to help young Nigerians access affordable financing for personal and business needs.

The programme was introduced following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to expanding consumer credit and giving more Nigerians access to financial opportunities that can improve their livelihoods.

Unlike many conventional loans, YouthCred focuses on making credit more accessible to eligible young Nigerians while promoting responsible borrowing through compulsory credit education.

What’s New in This Phase?

The biggest development is the introduction of YouthCred for Entrepreneurs.

With this expansion, eligible entrepreneurs can now apply for business loans of between ₦200,000 and ₦2 million to support business growth, purchase equipment and meet other business-related expenses.

According to the Federal Government, the programme is expected to benefit 500,000 entrepreneurs, while the overall YouthCred initiative is projected to extend structured credit to one million young Nigerians.

Three Categories Now Available

YouthCred now consists of three application categories:

  • NYSC Corps Members
  • Employed Youths
  • Youth Entrepreneurs

This phased approach allows the programme to reach more young Nigerians as it continues to expand across the country.

Who Can Benefit?

The programme is designed for economically active Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 39 who meet the eligibility requirements.

Applicants are expected to complete the programme’s mandatory credit education before submitting their applications for assessment.

Why the Government Expanded YouthCred

The Federal Government said the expansion reflects growing demand for affordable credit among young Nigerians and its commitment to creating opportunities for business growth, employment and financial inclusion.

According to CREDICORP, YouthCred is intended to help remove one of the biggest challenges facing many young people—limited access to affordable financing.

The programme also aims to encourage entrepreneurship and support young Nigerians who have viable business ideas but struggle to secure funding through traditional lending institutions.

Final Note

As the programme continues to roll out nationwide, eligible applicants are encouraged to rely only on official information and avoid individuals or websites requesting payment in exchange for registration or guaranteed approval.
