"I really love Portable a lot" - Timaya

During a recent interview with Channels Television, Timaya reflected on the first time he heard Portable’s song and identified parallels between the two. He then claimed that the Zazu singer reminds him of his own crazy past in some way.

“That’s why I admire Portable; when he first came out, I told 2face about him on my way to Delta State. I asked him, “Have you heard of that guy Portable?” Zazu Zeh. “That guy is exactly like me because I was a crazy guy.”

The singer admitted that while today’s Gen Z audience may perceive him as ‘unproblematic,’ they may be unaware of the wild side of his earlier career.

These Gen Z’s don’t know, therefore when I speak, some people say Timaya is unproblematic.

I just look at them, as if they knew me. They say, ‘Timaya minds his business,’ and I think, “Hmm.” I’ve calmed down now; I was insane before.

I was insane and hot as a fire, but I believe there is room for progress. At the time, it was my plan.”

Speaking about a believe that plagued his early career, Timaya confirmed that he was never in trouble with military members.

He explained,

“The story about me having a bad experience with military personnel is false. Why would I be associated with them? I’m not attempting to lay insults or disrespect on anyone, but you must use intelligence or common sense in all situations.”

“Even if I was mad, everything was a scheme. I failed in the industry because, at the time, everyone was singing love songs, and I’m from the Niger Delta, therefore I didn’t come as a lover boy.”
