JUST IN: TCN restores power supply to Damaturu, Maiduguri
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a key achievement in its mission to restore electricity to the northern regions of the country.
In a statement issued on Friday by Ndidi Mbah, the company’s General Manager for Public Affairs, it was confirmed that full power supply has been reinstated in Damaturu, Yobe, and Maiduguri, Borno State.
This progress follows the repair of the 330kV Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri transmission line. Electricity was fully restored to the Gombe-Damaturu segment at approximately 7:25 PM on October 30, while partial service was reestablished for the Damaturu-Maiduguri (Molai) section around 2:01 PM on October 31.
It is important to note that tower 372 along this transmission line had been vandalized on September 22, 2024.
The statement indicated, “Full power supply has been restored along the Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kV transmission line. The Gombe-Damaturu line was restored at 7:25 PM on the 30th, with the Damaturu-Maiduguri (Molai) section following on the 31st at 2:01 PM. The damaged tower was rebuilt, and the line was completed on October 23 at around 12:48 PM.”
However, TCN faced delays in restoring bulk power supply due to concurrent issues with the Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line.
The company reiterated its appeal to Nigerians to help combat the vandalism of electrical infrastructure for the benefit of the economy.
“TCN urges the public to assist in the fight against vandalism of power installations to secure the future of electricity in Nigeria. Please report any suspicious activities near transmission facilities to security personnel or TCN offices across the country.”
