The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that its team has pinpointed the cause of the recent power outage affecting the Ugwuaji-Apir 330-kilovolt (kV) double circuit transmission line.

On Tuesday, TCN reported disruptions in power supply across the North-East, North-West, and parts of North-Central Nigeria following a fault at approximately 4:53 AM on Monday, which caused the two 330 kV transmission lines to trip.

In an update provided on Wednesday, Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s general manager of public affairs, stated that the fault was located in the Igumale area of Benue State. The team of linesmen discovered the issue around 5 PM on Wednesday, identifying a broken section of the 330 kV line within the swampy forest of Igumale.

Mbah indicated that plans are already in motion to mobilize the necessary equipment and materials to the site for repairs. “We have identified the fault, which spans one section, as a broken 330 kV transmission line in the swampy terrain of Igumale,” the statement noted.

She also mentioned that, due to the challenging conditions of the area, TCN will need to transport a bulldozer and additional equipment from its Enugu Regional office to facilitate the repairs. A Hiab vehicle will also be dispatched to assist in properly tensioning the transmission line.

Mbah acknowledged that prior attempts by two teams to locate the source of the outage were unsuccessful until the latest discovery on Wednesday evening. She reiterated TCN’s dedication to resolving the issue promptly, emphasizing that the company is actively coordinating the necessary materials for the repairs. Mbah expressed appreciation to government officials and electricity consumers in the affected regions for their understanding during this time.
