Kano gov inaugurates new LG chairman

Kano state governor, Abba Yusuf

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf inaugurated 44 newly elected local government council chairmen from the New Nigeria People’s Party on Sunday, calling the election process “the most peaceful ever held in the state.”

Speaking at the Africa House, Government House, Kano, Yusuf, represented by his Deputy, praised the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission for overseeing a fair and transparent election.

“Despite attempts by some politicians to disrupt the elections for their own interests, KANSIEC’s diligent and reliable efforts ensured a seamless process,” he stated.

Discussing his administration’s stance on local governance, he mentioned that upon taking office, his government chose not to dissolve the existing local councils, even though all members belonged to the opposition APC.

“We opted to maintain the councils, honored their entitlements, and provided resources that were lacking during their party’s time in power. This equitable treatment of former local council members is uncommon, even in states governed by their own party,” he remarked.

A statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Bature Dawakin Tofa, expressed Yusuf’s appreciation to the residents of Kano for their peaceful engagement in the election and for exercising their democratic rights in an orderly fashion.

The governor instructed the newly sworn-in chairmen to head to their local government offices to inaugurate their vice-chairmen and councilors, emphasizing that all officials should report to work on Monday to begin their responsibilities.
