The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has launched a coordinated rapid assessment of the 2024 flood impacts in partnership with State Emergency Management Agencies and various development partners across the country. This announcement was made on NEMA’s official X account on Wednesday.

The purpose of this joint assessment is to synchronize data gathered by NEMA’s Emergency Operation Centre with information from partner organizations, ultimately producing a nationally verified report on the disaster’s effects.

NEMA’s Director General, Zubaida Umar, stated that the agency is collaborating with SEMAs, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the International Organization for Migration, and the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

“The assessment will focus on the flood’s effects on communities, evaluating aspects such as shelter, livelihoods, food security, water sanitation and hygiene, as well as access to information and education,” the statement noted.

Umar also emphasized that the assessment will incorporate feedback from affected communities, ensuring their input is considered in determining the best ways to support recovery efforts.
