The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has confirmed the employment of more than 1,000 young Nigerian graduates after they successfully completed a one-year internship, intensive training and performance evaluation programme.

The announcement was made by the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, Bayo Ojulari, who said the new employees earned their positions through commitment, hard work and consistent performance throughout the programme.

According to him, the exercise reflects the company’s commitment to building a workforce based on competence, fairness and professionalism.

The recent employment of over 1,000 graduates by NNPCL shows why graduate trainee programmes remain an excellent starting point for young professionals. You can also read our guide on 10 Reasons Every Graduate Should Apply for a Graduate Trainee Programme to understand how these programmes can shape your career.

How the Recruitment Happened

The newly employed graduates participated in a structured one-year programme that combined classroom learning, practical assignments and continuous performance assessments before being confirmed as full-time employees.

According to Ojulari, joining the programme did not automatically guarantee permanent employment. Instead, participants were expected to demonstrate their competence, commitment and ability to perform under real working conditions.

He explained that the trainees earned their positions through merit rather than personal connections or regional considerations, adding that NNPCL is focused on building a workforce where talent and performance are rewarded.

The graduate development programme was first announced in July 2024 during the tenure of former Group Chief Executive Officer Mele Kyari. Since then, participants have undergone intensive training before being deployed to different business units across the company.

Ojulari also encouraged the newly employed graduates to continue developing their skills, embrace innovation and contribute fresh ideas that will support the company’s growth as it continues its transition into a commercially focused energy company.

What It Means for Future NNPCL Recruitment

Although this is not a fresh recruitment exercise, the latest announcement shows that NNPCL continues to invest in developing young Nigerian professionals through structured training and merit-based employment.

For graduates hoping to work with the national oil company in the future, the development highlights the importance of relevant skills, dedication and strong performance during recruitment and training programmes.

Job seekers are advised to rely only on official NNPCL recruitment announcements and avoid paying anyone who promises employment opportunities.
