Ogun Governor approves reconstruction of Major roads
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has affirmed that his administration’s developmental projects will reach every part of the state as outlined in the 2025-2027 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and the 2025 Budget. He emphasized that projects have been allocated fairly across the three Senatorial Districts in line with the 2024 budget.
Speaking at a town hall meeting on the budget framework at the Bisi Rodipe Event Center in Ijebu-Ode, Abiodun praised stakeholders for their contributions during the budget consultations. He announced the approval for the reconstruction of key roads in the Ogun East Senatorial District, including the Imoro-Imegun-Opopo road, Igbeba-Eid praying ground to Prison road, Imoru road in Ijebu-Ode, and the Odelewu-Ladeshi-Ishiwo road.
Represented by Chief Economic Adviser and Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Dapo Okubadejo, the governor noted that, despite financial constraints, his administration has initiated the construction of over 64 kilometers of rural roads throughout the state. This initiative aims to enhance infrastructure for better rural access and to boost agricultural productivity.
“In our ongoing infrastructure efforts, we’ve approved the reconstruction of several roads, including Imoro-Imegun-Opopo in Ijebu-North-East and others,” Abiodun remarked. He added that the focus on infrastructural investments reflects the administration’s commitment to rural development amid economic challenges.
Additionally, he shared that, in partnership with the Lagos and Oyo State governments, 25 patrol vans and surveillance drones have been acquired to monitor the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The governor also highlighted the construction and upcoming completion of the Gateway International Agro-cargo Airport, which is set to make the state a key logistics hub in the region, leveraging the Africa Quality Assurance Center established by the Africa Export-Import Bank. He reported that over 600 kilometers of roads have been constructed statewide, with 243.3 kilometers in the Ogun East Senatorial District alone.
Some of the completed projects include the Chris-Ogunbajo-Erunwon Road, Palace Road in Ijebu-Itele, and internal roads at Olabisi Onabanjo University. Work is also underway on the double self-culvert at Alaran River in Isiwo, Ijebu-Ode, as well as Liberty Road and Awokoya Road.
In his opening remarks, Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr. Olaolu Olabimtan, revealed that 377 suggestions were collected from previous town hall meetings, with 90% of these included in the current budget. He assured that the remaining suggestions would be integrated into the 2025 budget and the MTEF.
Olabimtan urged residents of the Senatorial District to continue providing input for the planning and implementation of budget initiatives.
In their remarks, the Gbegande of Ososa, Oba Toye Alatishe, and the Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye, Oba Abdul-Rasaq Adenugba, praised the administration for maintaining the town hall meetings, which they viewed as essential for public involvement in the budget process. They pledged ongoing support from the monarchs in the district for the administration’s vision and goals.
