Ogun Ohanaeze Ndigbo leader harps on peaceful coexistence

Stephen Okorie has been elected as the new president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the leading Igbo socio-cultural organization in Ogun State. Following his election, Okorie expressed his dedication to fostering peaceful and harmonious relationships with other ethnic groups within the state.

 

In a statement released after his election, which took place recently, Okorie highlighted his commitment to unity. He secured 81 votes, successfully leading against other candidates in the election.

 

Speaking to reporters post-election, Okorie remarked, “I am grateful to God and to everyone who supported my election. I want to assure the people of Ogun State that my administration will prioritize uniting and harmonizing relationships across the board. We will work hard to sustain and enhance the cordial ties among various Igbo groups, host communities, and other ethnicities.”

 

He also acknowledged the contributions of Governor Dapo Abiodun for consistently recognizing the Igbo community in his administration. “We pledge to continue supporting the governor as he works to improve the lives of residents in the state,” Okorie added.

 

Okorie plans to collaborate with the Special Assistant to the Governor on Inter-Ethnic Affairs, Monday Chukwuji, to strengthen the relationship between the Igbo community and the state government, ensuring that issues affecting the Igbo population receive proper attention.

 

While appealing for support from the Igbo community in Ogun State, Okorie reassured them of his commitment to using his extensive experience to provide effective leadership focused on their welfare and promoting national unity.

 

Chike Ofaraka, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, reported that the election was conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner. He encouraged Okorie to utilize his new role to advance the interests of the Igbo people in the state.

 

Monday Chukwuji, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Inter-Ethnic Affairs, praised the election process, describing it as transparent and fair. He expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun for placing importance on the welfare of the Igbo community, calling him an exemplary leader whose dedication to national unity should be emulated.

 

Chukwuji congratulated Okorie on his election and urged him to leverage his skills as a management analyst to unite the Igbo community while ensuring that all segments of the population are included in his administration’s initiatives.
