Soludo condoles with families of victims in Anambra cult killings
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, expressed his condolences to the community and the families affected by the recent violence in Nibo, located in the Awka South LGA, on Sunday.
During a visit to Eke Market in Awka on Monday, as part of his routine oversight of state activities, Soludo vowed to bring those responsible for this heinous act to justice and to take a stand against cultism in the region. Reports indicate that at least 13 individuals lost their lives in a cult-related clash while the community celebrated its New Yam festival.
The governor urged residents to continue their daily activities lawfully and reassured them that the perpetrators would be found, no matter where they may be hiding. He stated, “Every preventable death in Anambra deeply saddens me, especially when it involves young lives. The senseless violence among rival cult groups in our communities is truly distressing.”
He continued, “The tragic events in Nibo yesterday, where we lost young lives, are intolerable. We have enacted an anti-cultism law, and I have instructed immediate measures against those involved. However, legislation alone is insufficient. I call upon parents and community leaders to unite in safeguarding our youth. We cannot remain passive while our children harm themselves.”
Soludo emphasized the importance of taking action at home and within communities to eliminate cultism. He concluded by stating that they will keep the victims in their prayers and strive for a safer Anambra, where citizens abide by the law and learn from this tragic incident.
