The University of Benin (UNIBEN), Benin City, has opened its 2026 recruitment exercise for qualified candidates interested in teaching, research, administrative, technical, health and other non-teaching positions.
The vacancies cut across different faculties, departments, schools, centres and units within the university. Depending on the position, candidates may be required to have qualifications ranging from secondary school certificates and diplomas to university degrees, professional qualifications and relevant work experience.

The academic requirements depend on the level of the position.
For teaching positions, UNIBEN generally requires a first degree with at least Second-Class Upper Division, or a Second-Class Lower Division degree backed by a PhD, subject to the specific requirements of the advertised position.
Senior academic positions require stronger academic and professional records.
For example, applicants for Senior Lecturer are required to have a PhD, at least five years of teaching experience and a minimum of eight peer-reviewed publications.
For Lecturer I and Lecturer II, the university has stated requirements around a PhD or Master’s degree, teaching experience and peer-reviewed publications, depending on the position.
An Assistant Lecturer position requires a Master’s degree, with the applicant expected to be pursuing a PhD, together with evidence of teaching and research potential or experience.

Examples of Non-Teaching Requirements
The qualification and experience requirements are different for each vacancy.
For instance, an Administrative Assistant requires a good honours degree in Humanities, Social Sciences, Law or Education, not below Second-Class Lower Division. Applicants must also be computer literate and have an NYSC certificate.
A Higher Executive Officer requires either a Third-Class degree or a good HND not below Lower Credit in the specified non-science disciplines, along with computer literacy and an NYSC certificate.
For Executive Officer, candidates need a good ND not below Lower Credit or an NCE in the specified non-science fields and must be computer literate.
Professional positions have additional requirements. A Senior Radiographer, for example, requires a relevant degree in Radiography, registration with the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria, as well as the required post-internship and NYSC certificates.
For Architect II, applicants need a relevant qualification in Architecture that is registrable with ARCON. Engineer II applicants are required to have a B.Eng. degree not below Second-Class Lower Division and an NYSC certificate.
The Chief Programmer position requires a good degree in Computer Science or Informatics not below Second-Class Lower Division, or an equivalent professional qualification, together with at least 12 years of post-qualification cognate programming experience.

For teaching positions, applicants are required to upload:

UNIBEN Recruitment Referee Requirement
The referee requirement is important and should not be overlooked.
UNIBEN states that referees are expected to send their reports directly to the Registrar under confidential cover.
The reports must be received not later than one week after the application deadline.
The subject of the referee’s report should contain the applicant’s name and the position being applied for.
At least one of the referees must be from the applicant’s current or most recent place of employment.
