Davido Warns Afro Americans Against Relocating To Africa

Nigerian music icon Davido has discouraged African Americans of relocating to Africa, citing economic and institutional concerns.

During an appearance on the Big Homies House podcast, the Afrobeats superstar expressed concern over Black Americans’ increased desire in moving to the continent.

Davido emphasised that, while Africa has its charms, the current economic realities make it a less appealing choice for relocation.

Using Nigeria as an example, he stated, “It’s not cool back home. The economy is presently in chaos.

The singer highlighted Nigerians’ problems, emphasising the absurdity of locals paying exorbitant costs for domestically produced oil compared to those who import it.

This, he argued, shows the structural inefficiencies that plague daily life in Africa. “We Nigerians, the exchange rate is messed up, and the oil prices are too high. Assume a country produces oil and we pay more for it than those that import it.

“We do not have the best leaders, and that is a fact,” he said. However, Davido underlined that his words were not intended to denigrate Africa.

Instead, he sought to present a balanced image, noting the continent’s expanding worldwide appeal as a result of its burgeoning entertainment industry, which he described as a “smokescreen” for deeper difficulties.
