NANS Issues Fresh Update for NELFUND Beneficiaries Nationwide

Students Registered in the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) scheme have started receiving Upkeep payment alerts, while others are still waiting for theirs.

The difference in payment timing has led to questions from beneficiaries across the Nigeria , especially from students who have not seen any credit alert despite meeting the programme’s requirements.

To address these concerns, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) says eligible beneficiaries should remain calm, explaining that the payment process is still ongoing and not everyone will receive their Nelfund Upkeep payment on the same day.

Why Some Students Have Not Received Payment

One of the questions students have been asking is why their classmates have received payments while they are still waiting.

NANS says there is no need to assume anything is wrong.

The association explained that NELFUND is releasing funds in batches. This means payments are sent out gradually instead of reaching every beneficiary at once.

Because of this process, students from the same institution or department may receive their upkeep allowance on different dates.

The timing can also vary depending on bank processing and account verification.

NANS Appeals for Patience

NANS President Akinteye Babatunde confirmed that the latest payment exercise has started and assured students that outstanding allowances will be paid.

He advised beneficiaries who have not yet received payment not to panic, adding that more batches are still being processed.

According to him, every eligible student will be captured as the payment exercise progresses.

NANS to Monitor the Payment Process

NANS also said it is working closely with the management of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to ensure the student loan scheme is implemented fairly.

The association said it will continue engaging NELFUND to improve transparency and ensure that approved beneficiaries receive both their tuition payments and monthly upkeep allowances without unnecessary delays.

Akinteye Babatunde added that NANS will keep monitoring the programme and raise any issues affecting students until they are resolved.

He said protecting the welfare of Nigerian students remains one of the association’s priorities.

What the Monthly Upkeep Allowance Covers

NELFUND provides two different forms of financial support.

The first is tuition, which is paid directly to approved tertiary institutions on behalf of successful applicants.

The second is the monthly upkeep allowance. This money goes straight into each beneficiary’s personal bank account to help with everyday expenses while studying.

Students can use the allowance for:

  • Transportation
  • Feeding
  • Internet subscriptions
  • Textbooks and study materials
  • Printing and project work
  • Other daily academic expenses

The support is intended to reduce the financial pressure many students face during their studies.

Students Report Receiving Credit Alerts

Many beneficiaries have already confirmed receiving payments.

Screenshots of bank alerts have been shared across social media, with students expressing relief after waiting several weeks for the latest disbursement.

While some have already been paid, others are still waiting for the next batch.

What Beneficiaries Should Do

Students whose accounts have not yet been credited are advised to:

  • Keep checking their registered bank account.
  • Make sure the bank details submitted during the application are correct.
  • Ensure the account is still active.
  • Follow updates from NELFUND and NANS.
  • Ignore rumours or unofficial claims shared on social media.

As long as the payment exercise is still ongoing, students who have not yet received their allowance may still be included in the remaining batches.

Frequently Asked Questions

Has NELFUND started paying beneficiaries?

Yes. Payments have started, and many students have already confirmed receiving their alerts.

Why haven’t I received my payment?

NELFUND is paying beneficiaries in batches. Some students will receive their allowance earlier than others.

Will all outstanding payments be cleared?

NANS says the payment process is still ongoing and has assured students that all eligible beneficiaries will receive their outstanding allowances.

Does NELFUND pay tuition and upkeep separately?

Yes. Tuition fees are paid directly to approved institutions, while the monthly upkeep allowance is sent to students’ personal bank accounts.

Conclusion

The latest message from NANS should reassure students who are still waiting for their NELFUND payment. The association says there is no reason to panic, as the disbursement is still in progress.

NANS also says it is working closely with NELFUND to improve transparency and ensure eligible students receive both their tuition payments and monthly upkeep allowances on time.

For now, beneficiaries are encouraged to keep checking their bank accounts, rely on official updates and avoid misleading information shared on unofficial platforms.
