Thousands of students benefiting from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) have started receiving their June and July upkeep allowances, bringing relief after weeks of waiting.

The latest disbursement follows complaints from student beneficiaries over delays in the payment of the monthly stipend provided under the Federal Government’s student loan scheme.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) confirmed that the payment process has commenced, while many students have also reported receiving credit alerts in their bank accounts.

Students Confirm Receipt of NELFUND Upkeep Allowances

Several beneficiaries have shared evidence of successful payments on social media, indicating that the latest round of upkeep allowances is reaching eligible students.

The monthly upkeep allowance forms part of the NELFUND programme, which provides financial assistance to students in approved tertiary institutions. While tuition fees are paid directly to institutions, the upkeep allowance is transferred to students to help cover day-to-day living expenses.

The recent payments cover the June and July stipend for eligible beneficiaries.

NANS Says Outstanding Payments Will Be Cleared

Reacting to the development, NANS President Akinteye Babatunde assured students that efforts are being made to settle all outstanding upkeep payments.

He said the disbursement process has officially started and appealed to students who have not yet received payment to remain patient, explaining that beneficiaries are being paid in batches.

According to him, students whose allowances have not reflected in their accounts should not panic, as additional payments are still being processed.

Why Some Students Have Not Been Paid Yet

NELFUND payments are not always released to every beneficiary at the same time.

Instead, the disbursement is carried out in phases, meaning some students may receive their alerts earlier than others.

Students who are still waiting are advised to monitor their bank accounts regularly and ensure that the bank details submitted during their application remain active and accurate.

What Is the NELFUND Upkeep Allowance?

The upkeep allowance is a monthly financial support provided under the Federal Government’s student loan initiative.

Unlike tuition payments, which are sent directly to higher institutions, the upkeep allowance is paid into the personal bank accounts of eligible students.

The fund is intended to help beneficiaries meet essential expenses such as:

  • Transportation
  • Feeding
  • Study materials
  • Other day-to-day educational costs

Students must meet the programme’s eligibility requirements before they can receive the monthly stipend.

What Beneficiaries Should Do

Students who have not yet received payment are encouraged to:

  • Remain patient while the batch payment process continues.
  • Regularly check their registered bank accounts.
  • Ensure their account details are correct and active.
  • Follow official NELFUND communication channels for updates.
  • Avoid relying on unverified social media claims regarding payments.
