The Niger State Cash Transfer Unit has commenced the distribution of debit cards for a ₦75,000 grant to 46,533 beneficiaries under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) Programme.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the initiative is designed to support households affected by economic hardship and rising living costs across the state.

The exercise was officially flagged off in Minna by the State Programme Manager of the Niger State Cash Transfer Unit, Alhaji Suleiman Kpange, who explained that the debit cards will be issued to vulnerable households across the 25 local government areas.

He noted that each beneficiary is entitled to a total of ₦75,000, paid in three instalments of ₦25,000 each, aimed at cushioning the impact of inflation, food price increases, and other economic pressures.

Kpange further disclosed that the programme is implemented under the National Social Safety Nets Project Scale-Up (NASSP-2), using data drawn from the National Social Register (NSR), the National Beneficiary Register (NBR), and the Rapid Response Register (RRR). These databases, he said, were verified at both state and federal levels before approval.

“The payment service providers are on ground with 46,533 debit cards for beneficiaries across the state. This marks a continuation of the distribution exercise,” he said.

He added that the inclusion of households from the Rapid Response Register was meant to capture more vulnerable residents in local communities.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Alhaji Ahmad Inga, described the programme as a Federal Government intervention aimed at reducing the impact of economic challenges on low-income households.

He urged beneficiaries to use the funds responsibly, noting that the intervention is intended to improve livelihoods and support small-scale economic activities.

Beneficiaries who spoke during the exercise expressed appreciation to both the Federal and State Governments for the initiative. A petty trader, Mrs. Tawakaltu Lawal, said the support would help expand her pepper business, while Mr. Salihu Abdullahi, a tomato seller, said he plans to reinvest the funds into his trade to improve household income.
